I love my Google documents. It’s awesome being able to access them from anywhere via the web. The only thing better is being able to access them when offline too. This application let’s you do that. Sort of.

For what the application does, it does well. That is, it will cache your text documents (speadsheets and presentations are not supported) onto your iPhone so that even when you have no connection, you can still view your text documents. Key word here is VIEW. Yes, this is only a viewing utility, no option for editing. This feature would be great to have, but it IS a free app after all, so I can’t complain too much about that. My only other complaint is that it only caches documents after you open them the first time. I would LOVE to see an option (a button?) to CACHE ALL, or something like that. This way if I’m going on a trip and I want to download all the docs, I can just hit that one button.

If you’re looking for a free and relatively easy way to get your text-only Google docs onto your iPhone, this is a good option.

  1. Thanks for the review.

You hit on the topic, but the formatting of your post makes it hard to over-emphasize.

    Try it more like

    READ ONLY ACCESS —
    NO changes ALLOWED!!!
    (to your own documents)

I downloaded it & fiddled with it. I just ended using my Palm and figured I wanted a way to have all those notes I made on it — and since I have a PC, boy was I surprised to find Apple didn’t make any way for me to do that. NOTHING

So I manually copy/pasted (oh, can’t do that on iPhone either — hope someone got fired for THAT oversight!) every note into Google Docs, and then was using this app … and discovered I can’t change anything!

I can’t make any changes … to my own files!!!

So I bought a database for iPhone (one of the $10 cheapies).

I don’t know about you, but … I’m amazed at the LACK of interactive support on the PC platform for the iPhone.

Anyway, the phone is incredible. It is my first encounter with 21st Century well-designed tech.

I surprise myself that I like how Apple has forced developers to make their apps so tiny and unembeded in the OS but must use the API.
I surprised myself by not finding the lack of a back button incredibly frustrating on the iPhone.
I surprise myself that I don’t mind certain strange quirks of the iPhone.

But this app — what’s the point? From my POV, until copy/paste comes along, this app is useful — and then, bye bye … JUNK

Google’s gotta have something better in the works, no?
